Latvians in North America – 75!

Celebrating 75 years since the beginning of the postwar Latvian exile,
we ask – how can we preserve our culture abroad for another 75 years?

Across North America, Latvian centers are at a crossroads — facing shrinking communities and shifting identities. With each generation, the same question returns: how do we preserve this culture, and for how long can it endure?

Our new documentary short-film series takes viewers inside this pivotal moment. We explore what it truly takes to sustain Latvian centers and culture, the hard choices every generation must make, and the possibilities that lie ahead.

Filmed in Latvian hubs across the continent, the series brings you into schools and folk dance groups, into the lives of Hollywood talents and young entrepreneurs launching their first Latvian-inspired products in New York. Each story reveals a different perspective on what the Latvian future abroad could look like. The buildings themselves — built and maintained by the post-war exile community — stand as both symbols and testaments. Some have already been sold; others still pulse with Latvian life. But will they remain vibrant parts of the community, or fade into history as monuments of the past?

Marking 75 years since the beginning of the post-war Latvian exile, and 35 years since a new generation of diaspora Latvians began to join in, this series asks a vital question: how do we preserve it for another 75 years?
